Why I Am Running for City Council |
"I am running for City Council because I believe it is important to preserve what is best about American Fork for our children and their children, even as we grow to be a modern city, with new and exciting institutions and opportunities. American Fork should be a place where families want to stay and live, not just a place to pass through on the way to somewhere else.
"American Fork is in the middle of a difficult transition from small town to small, modern city. Unmanaged growth will destroy the character of any city, but growth can be managed. We can preserve the best of our past and still welcome a bright future, if we have leaders who are committed to both our past and our future, and who have the backbone to enforce reasonable laws and regulations designed to manage growth and protect our quality of life.
"Meanwhile, the current fiscal crisis is growing, and the City's ability to respond effectively to needs and opportunities is shrinking rapidly. This threatens our ability both to build our future and to preserve our past. We urgently need leaders with the financial and political skills and discipline to restore American Fork to a solid financial footing.
"We will meet these and other challenges more effectively, and public confidence in City government will increase, if we have a City government which is committed to informing and involving its people, which values and welcomes public input and volunteer involvement." |
